Most Populous AMAC Member Congressional Districts

There are 435 congressional districts with an average population of 761,169.  But that can vary widely by district.  South Dakota has a population of 935,000 people and one representative.  Idaho has a population of 2.06 million, nearly double Rhode Island’s at 1.11 million, yet each state has two representatives in Congress.  The former is poised to pick up a seat in the next Census, while the latter will likely lose a seat.

The average number of AMAC members by congressional district is about 4,400.  Four districts have more than 10,000 AMAC members.  Indeed, SD-At Large and Idaho-1 are in that group.  The other two are AZ-02 and OR-02.  Arizona is home to many retirees, so that would be expected among a senior benefits organization.  But what about Florida?

Well, there are four districts that have between 9,000 and 10,000 AMAC members.  They are FL-06, FL-08, FL-11, and FL-17.  The world’s largest retirement community is The Villages, in Central Florida.  The community is split, however, between Florida-11 and Florida-06.  AMAC Member Services, The AMAC Foundation, and AMAC Action offices are located in the Florida-11 district in Leesburg.  If not for the split, either would likely be the top member district in the country.  The two other Florida districts have large retiree communities as well with Sarasota, Venice, and Port Charlotte in FL-17 and Melbourne and Titusville in FL-08.

If you guessed that the fewest AMAC members would reside in blue states, then you would be correct.  Six districts have only 400-500 AMAC members in them. CA-34, which is mainly Los Angeles, has the fewest at 409.  Four NY districts have a similar number as does MA-07, which encompasses Boston.
