The Honorable Greg Steube
17th Congressional District of Florida
2457 Rayburn House Office Building
Washington, DC 20515

Dear Congressman Steube,

On behalf of AMAC Action, to advocacy affiliate of the Association of Mature American Citizens, we write to express our strong support for the Tax Relief for Victims of Crimes, Scams, and Disasters Act. We commend your leadership in introducing this critical legislation in the House of Representatives.

Across the country, retirees and families are suffering profound financial losses due to cybercrime, fraudulent schemes, structural home failures, and natural disasters. Seniors – many of whom have spent decades building their nest eggs – are increasingly the target of sophisticated criminal operations that can wipe out their life savings in a matter of minutes.

Under current law, these victims are often forced to pay taxes on income or assets they no longer possess, compounding their trauma and undermining their ability to recover. By restoring the Casualty and Theft Loss Deduction for the years 2018 through 2025, your bill reinstates long-standing, commonsense protections that were part of our federal tax code for over a century.

This measure aligns with core conservative values: personal responsibility, limited government overreach, and justice for victims. It ensures that the tax code does not punish those who have already suffered significant, often devastating, losses through no fault of their own.

Your initiative is not only fiscally sound – it is morally right. We urge your colleagues to join you in supporting this much-needed legislation and stand ready to assist in advocating for its swift passage.

Thank you again for your work on behalf of America’s seniors and scam victims.

Sincerely,

Andrew J. Mangione Jr.
Senior Vice President
