Dear Congressman Nunn,

On behalf of AMAC, the Association of Mature American Citizens’ over 2 million members nationwide, including over 5,000 residing in IA-03, we write to express our strong support for the Safeguarding Social Security and Medicare Act. This legislation will compel the US comptroller to develop a plan to protect the hard-earned benefits of retirees and ensure that Social Security and Medicare remain stable in the face of rising inflation and economic uncertainty.

American seniors have spent their lives working, contributing to these programs with the promise that their benefits would be there when they need them. With Social Security projected to face insolvency by 2035 and Medicare by 2036, it is imperative that Congress act now to safeguard these essential programs. Inflation has already eroded the purchasing power of retirees on fixed incomes, making it harder for seniors to afford necessities like food, housing, and prescription drugs. Without action, millions could see their benefits slashed due to the failure of Washington to responsibly manage these vital programs.

By requiring the US Comptroller General to develop a plan to address the impact of inflation on Social Security and Medicare, this legislation takes a common sense, proactive approach to ensuring that retirees receive the full benefits they have earned and deserve. Protecting these programs is not just an economic necessity, it is a moral obligation.

We appreciate your leadership in putting seniors first and working to protect Social Security and Medicare for both current and future generations. Additionally, we look forward to submitting our recommendations to the Comptroller upon passage of this legislation.

Sincerely,

Andrew J. Mangione Jr.
